I've got this slight 'tick when the engine returns to idle. When its warm if you let it idle, then raise the revs a bit it's fine but as it returns to idle it 'ticks' for a second or two. This is the only circumstance that it ticks
When I changed the oil to Valvoline 20/50 it got worst so I've put Magnatec 10/40 in now & it's much better. Could it be the pick up in the sump?
ETA it's a 5 litre TVR/Rover V8.
Ta in advance
Do you know if the tick is mechanical or electrical ?
I had a ticking from mine at idle - eventually put down to a blowing exhaust gasket and it was the noise of the tappets / valvetrain coming out. Bit of exhaust assembly paste sorted it. However mine was a continual ticking, not short lived, so I guess the issue is different.
Thanks for the reply's chaps. The oil pressure is very good. It's only when it returns to idle. If you raise the revs just slightly it goes away, then comes back as it returns to idle for a couple of secs.
It's as if one of the followers is loosing & taking a few seconds to fill again.
Bin a while so a quick update. Changed the oil for a 5-40 synth with an engine flush before, (2k rpm for 20 mins) & the tick has gone away when warm. Still there a bit when warming up, not on first start when cold.
