Battery Killer

I was fitting a fuel pump this afternoon and drilled through the side of my battery.

Now I need a replacement before the acid eats throught he chewing gum in the hole.

I have a 60Ah 600A CCA version. Is there a good reason to go bigger?

I was interestred if in going bigger it would be an advantage as the old one was OK. I have a MGB with an RV8, and so the size I can use is limited.

I would guess the smaller ones are more expensive.

Any recommendations before I trudge off to Motorserve?

I would get the biggest one that will fit - you can't have too much reserve battery power. (it's most handy when breakdowns occur and you've got lots of cranking to do!)

I agree with Chris and would add.

Buy the best battery you can afford - only the rich can afford cheap car batteries.

I have an Odyssey PC925 battery. It's pretty compact too (L x W x H) 169 x 179 x 147.mm) but you won't get much change from £150.

Your battery does not have enough oomph. I would need to go to the PC1500 which is too big, also at £200 a bit more than I want to pay.

I suggest the cheap variety from Halfords

They have a 3 year warranty and work reasonably

I'd go for something smaller than a full size range rover one as they had loadsa extra electrical stuff to power (seat heaters, rear glass, aircon, dvd players, electric windows etc. all of which can be left on whit the engine idling and not recharging the battery)

Then when the battery dies after 2 years take it back and get a replacement About 4 years for £60

They stand behind the warranty as I had one exchanged (something burht through the top insulation and shorted a cell) - possible a hot arc welding ball of crud! They bitched but replaced it!

I need a reasonably powerful one as I have added power windows , seat heaters, uprated lights and twin fans, and will have a fridge running in the back.

You certainly do - those fridges take a fair bit of power. I recommend two batteries, one for the fridge, one for everything else.

In fact, fans are quite thirsty too. I measured 14Amps on mine.
