Variations in oil pressure with oil cooler

After installing the engine oil cooler on your RV8, did you notice any change in oil pressure?

Was there more or less oil pressure showing?

If so, by how much did the pressure change?

Depending where you take the pressure from there could be more or less pressure. If you measure before the cooler it could be higher or after lower simply because the cooler and pipework can cause a restriction. Lots of people use pipework that is too small for the Rover engine being that its a high volume system. This can go for remote mounted filters as well.

So in that case, with the oil pressure transmitter mounted on the oil pump, alongside the oil pressure warning switch, which are both on the outflow side of the pump, according to the Land Rover engine manual, the oil pressure would reflect the resistance to flow as it enters the engine at that point, is that correct?

In which case, if the oil cooler were to be removed, then the pressure at the above point would essentially remain the same, all other variables being constant in both cases?

My pressure did drop after fitting a pump cover/cooler/thermostat, but not much. The crap electrical gauge I had fitted at the time was very inaccurate, but I reckon the drop was less than 5psi (measured at the outlet of the remote oil filter head).

If you measure the pressure at the pump outlet, I would expect the pressure to increase slightly, since you are pumping through an added restriction, and the oil may be cooler, ie. thicker.
