Rhoads lifters
Hello, has anybody got ant experence of rhoads lifters, do they work, can they control a lumpy cam giving a sensible idle? Thinking of using the crowler 50233 but not sure if it is usable because of the idle, dont want to fit a lower cam then wish i didnt. only want to do this job once.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I'd second that.need4speed wrote:the only experience i had with rhoads lifters is the god awful racket they make - i mean the rattle really is embarassing....
merry christmas btw....
Lots of noise, no discernable gain form their alleged benefits, and they didn't last long.
No substitute for cubic inches
Have them and I am satisfiet with them.

At idle they rattle and above 1500 its gone. The sound of the rattle is more noticable inside the car than outside according to most people who drove with me.
They even gave me more 2 inhg vacuum and more throttle responce.
And yess I would fit them again. Its retro, old skool but no body knows what that is anymore.
And while those new age GTI / R / whatever - drivers at the traffic light may think by the noise comming from the rattle and the whining Gilmer ; ohhhh that engine is on its end, easy peasy to win from that........
Guess what .........

For what it's worth, I think you would get more benifit from fitting EFI to the engine and mapping the fuel and timing curve correctly. Alot of what is put down to the cam is infact the carb not able to deliver a constant mixture, anything you might get from the lifters would be more than mached by the EFI and less noise.
Alternativly, if you like the noise, fit a solid cam then you will gain at both ends of the rev range.
Best regards
Mike

poppet valves rule!
Im using the crower 50233 cam with crane lifters,
if your going to use the car round town then personally dont use the 50233 get the 50232,
the car is awful around town and traffic jams she lumps and kangaroos at low throttle every where etc,
but on the clear open road when you can wind the throttle open its fun
you will need a min of stg2 to stg3 heads for the 50233 also mate,
