Another maybe daft question

Post by acs »

Right I have come to the conclusion that my 3.9Efi Hotwire is drastically over fueling.

So much so that not only is it fouling the plugs on tick over it also has so much fuel it runs down the bores and contaminates the oil and my oil level rises constantly.

So here comes the question.

What tells the motor to come off choke? There must be a temperature control sensor that cuts that changes the mixture.

Or am I talking utter rot and should be giving up and putting it all back to carbs?

Cheers
Adi

There will be a coolant temp sensor somewhere.

Carbs would be a very backward step over a good efi setup.

coolant temp sensor is around the front of the inlet manifold with two wires going to it. I cant remember exactly where but its not the one on the stat housing if you have one there. Thats the fan switch and its not the one with just one wire going to it, thats for the temp gauge.

Is it in "limp home" mode?

If you run diagnostics on it fine - if not
Disconnect battery for 30 seconds
Reconnect Battery
Fire her up - it clears the ECU memory

But then something normally triggers it for it to go into limp mode so you may cure it only for it to reappear - that said it's easy to knock off the list!

I have tried that but it really seems to make do difference in the richness.

Unless there is something making it error again.

Ironically enough if it in get you home mode it's not very good cause I normal end up getting towed home.
