GM Auto box

Can anyone tell me what BHP a standard GM auto box can take when mated to a rover v8 used for drag racing ,thanks.(before it goes bang)

I assume you mean the GM180, as fitted to SD1s? No Idea what power they can take actually, but it'll depend on whether you use 12" slicks and a 'scienced out' four link rear end, or cross plies, or anything in between.

If it helps my Opel Manta with Rover V8 and GM180 autobox was over 180bhp and the box itself handled it fine. The car ended up having a sub 6 second 0-60 time but a top speed of only 85mph when it valve bounced!! This was due to the differential ratio mind :oops: I also know of a couple of Rover V8 powered Manta's in the owners club who have no problems running 200 bhp through the auto but I'm not sure if they used the earlier borg warner auto or GM?!

If you go the GM powertrain website you can get specs for all the GM transmissions including design limits for torque and vehicle weight.
