cam/lifters bedding in lube

when i first bought my RP4 cam it cam with some read oil to help with the bedding in prosses...

well ive just bought some rhoads lifters and want to bed them in properly so whats the best thing to use????

i take it normal oil wont do the job properly!!!!!! so whats differnt with this red bedding in lube????

ive got some Engine Assembly Lube from V8 tuner... would this work????

It depends what is in the assembly paste as some stuff is bad for running a cam in. To be sure use proper cam lube or give Paul @ V8 tuner a call and ask what he thinks.

Am I reading this right that you are just changing the lifters and not the cam itself? If so this can lead to problems very quickly and its not the best idea. The cam will be work hardened and slightly worn where the lifters aren't which can lead to rapid wear.

EDIT>>>> just checked the comp cams website and they don't recommend that for cam installation. Paul will have the proper comp cams cam lube which costs pennies anyway.

Marki is right. No amount of assembley lube is going to compensate for mixed new and used cam/lifters.

I think most of the cam lubes, are based on heavy gear oils.

LOL! quick edit there too! I was just gonna say i'm sure that the comp cams stuff would be fine! Anyway there are loads of products out there for the job, and you usually get some free if you buy a new cam too.

You are right, the guy is making a right old mess of lubing the cam!

I read somewhere that it's not a good idea to put the lube on the cam bearings, it should only be put on the lobes. I think that the stuff is so thick that is can block the cam bearing oilways for quite some time, during this period there is no oil pressure holding the cam off the cam bearing.

Cant really see why cam lube would be an issue, or even required on an LS motor. It has roller followers. They defo wont be as harsh in terms of cam wear, as flat tappet followers.
