ARP con rod bolts, torque?

Post by winkle »

Hi guys, I fitted ARP con rod bolts during my build and cleverly threw the box away containing torque settings! :nutz

I need to strip it down again, could anyone please tell me the torque sequence and values for when I put them back on?

Steve

I cant remember them of hand but they will be on the ARP web site http://www.arp-bolts.com/ . That said unless you have had the rods re-circled I would use standard settings as extra torque could pull the big ends making them oval and pinching the bearings.

Thanks Marki,

Got the torque settings from there. Rods have been re-circled so 40ft lbs which is what ARP recommend should be fine. 5ft lbs more than max rover setting.

Cheers Steve

I wouldn't do it this way. I'd stretch the bolts to the correct torque value otherwise they may slacken off and loosen the caps. Do it with a rod in the vice and then check for ovality. I've never had to resize a rod yet. That said, I haven't built a thousand engines :) So, you could probably torque the rods 3 times in situ in the engine and if the engine rotates freely it'll be fine, imo :)

Not meaning to hijack the thread but I've got a couple of qns:

What is the best way of getting old conrod bolts out?

And when fitting the new ones - do you just line up the grooves of the new bolts and pull them in when you torque it up?

thanks
Mike
