What's the benifit of Dry sump. and whats the aprox cost.
Lol yes I thinking of buying the one from ebay.
Will be used on a 4.0 Rv8 TVR Tasmin race car. for the TVR challange.
but need some reason to justify the cost.

The main advantage of a dry system is the removal of oil surge ,, because there is no sump for the oil to slosh around in and allow the pickup to be uncovered,, it also allows you to place the tank etc in a place so that is benefical to weight ballance and setting corner weights, Depending on what flywheel you are using it will also allow the engine to sit lower in the car as ground clearance is not a real Issue.
the only disadvantage is if the belt breaks, you lose an engine, so an Idea that seems to be popular is the use of an aquasump presure system, actuated by a low pressure switch that will also cut your ignition.

One other question, does the dry sump pump sap more or less BHP from the engine than the standard system.

If you look here, there are a couple of comments about it, seems fookin expensive to me, I would baulk at paying £500 as i am a skinflint,for it but it has got those magic worgs, WILDCAT, which seems to add another nought to the price, just have a look on the wildcat site and see how much one is new, I bet its not much more,
The other thing about a used oiling system if the history is unknown, the engine may have had in its past a a major failure and deposited crap in places that it can not be easily cleaned, this at some time may or may not come loose and possibly cause damage to your engine

Dry sump oil systems are meant to use less power in that although the pump will probably use a bit more than a single stage internal pump the system reduces the amount of oil flying around the inside of the engine which itself absorbes power, meant to be worth 15 to 20 bhp on a 450 bhp chevy, less on a lower state of tune more on a higher tuned engine.
I am putting a dry sump system on the engine I am building now, bought the pump of ebay and will collect the rest of the bits as I go, bearing in mind what Ian says about blow ups I think you can build a set up for about £500 to £700.
