Mike,

You'll have to tell me what car your running, I know i've seen it before in the forums but can't remember right now. How do you have your setup orientated, engine behind the seats and box towards the rear or engine in the back with box pointing to the front??

Both Ford an Nissan chose to mount their front diff to the sump.

But again, this all depends on what you are building, and if this is feasable.

Id say it would be a normal approach for a front engined awd vehicle though that uses a rwd style layout.

I must admit, I was leaning towards front engined having seen the 4x4 V6 Mini on the internet, google search brings it up. Plus the gearchange would be correctly laid out and it seems to be the way to do things with all the manufacturers, grp B rally cars excluded.

Yup that was the idea but I am not sure if you can get the torque split to work correctly.
I am building a Mclaren M1 c replica, it all fits in (though I could do with another half inch for the gearbox) but I recon I can hide it with the number plate.

Is the torque split an electronically controlled piece of kit on the audi system? or pressure based like on the skyline box? Any thoughts on how you would get the drive for the front diff out to the side of the engine?

I don't know how the audi controles the torque split outside the box, but knowing audi it involves several micro controlers. Inside it will be hydraulic pumps and valves, could all be pnumatically linked to the electronics, would be worth sticking an enquiry on one of the audi sites.
Getting the drive to the side is a case of having a gearbox, chain drive or toothed belt set up made up or adapted from somthing like a power take off box what you use would be dictated by which way the drive shaft has to turn by it gets to the front and how close to the sump/bellhousing you can run it.

have you had a nose around the quaife website, http://www.quaife.co.uk/ you may get some ideas there.

Quaife defo make nice diffs.....

Havent heard so many good reports about their gearsets or boxes though.

Over on PF, the Ford guys seem to say their MT75 gearsets are crap.

What are you bolting to it ?

I'm risking a Ford 302 V8 to a 2.9 V6 XR4x4 MT 75 box :oops:

Much over 350 LBSFT seems to kill them but they are cheap 8-)

I'm not fully decided yet on the engine to use, plus the MT75 is off the list due to its poor performance, I know there cheap but don't fancy being on my back every weekend putting a new box in!!

Search the old forum for user name "Autronic" if you can.....

He was bolting a 4.0 Lexus V8 into a 4x4 Sierra, using the MT75 etc....

Lots of superb fab work going on there.
