Just like to say, MASSIVE thanks to the guys who gave me all the info I needed, you know who you are!! anyway, thanks to you lot I now have an active V8..... it breaths again after being stood for 7 years!!!

But, I have a slight issue:

What's your opinions peeps??? about the knock I mean..... Also I have to hold the throttle open ever so slightnly to keep the thin idling!! what could this be?? It's a Rover 3.5 with the flapper efi system on it, also after about 5 mins of idling it used abou thalf a golon :shock: shouldn't be this heavy shurley??

Must admit it doesn't sound too healthy to me!

You could increase the idle speed a bit, but I guess you need to check ignition timing / idle mixture.

But that knocking noise doesn't sound good at all......

Sounds a bit endy - but maybe it's not firing on all cylinders, which sometimes makes 'em sound rough as hell!

Are the plug leads in the right order etc? Rest of the ignition bits up to scratch (leads/plugs/cap etc).

Have you any oil pressure??, I have seen a couple of engines that have not been started for a couple of years that have had the pump drain back and lose oil pressure.

Yea, oil pressure light goes out just after it fires up in to life!!
It has been sujested that it could be a stuck hydrolic tappet(s)???

I sorted out the fireing order yesterday and set the timing roughly, but it does stop now and again, then starts up again!!!

I know that there was stuck rings on a few pistons as the compression was down on 2 or 3 when I did a test the other week!!!
