Weber 500cfm electric choke...hot ?

Post by v8alex »

Just wired in the loom on the kit car and applied power for the first time. Noticed the electric choke on my Weber 500cfm carb got warm which is fine, but how warm is warm ? The choke unit has two connectors and a brass stud above the +12v feed. This stud burnt my finger it was so hot. Is this right ? If I leave it for enough time will it cool down ?

This is just with the ignition on and only takes about a minute to get to this point. I have not started the engine yet so not sure if this would do anything.

I've checked the voltage across the terminals and it reads 12v as expected.

Thoughts ?

Alex
