Warwick Castle day out.

Post by mgbv8 »

For the first time in 25 years, me and the wife have been for a bank holiday monday trip out without having to drag kids along. The youngest is 18 now and she and the other 3 have all done their own things today.

The last time we went to Warwick, we didnt have kids, so it was over 25 years ago.

What a great day out the castle is. Only 40 mins from my home and well worth a look. Anyone even slightly interested in medievel history should try and find the time to see it. There are events on all day long, and if you plan your visit from the leaflet you get when you arrive, you can see the jousting, the trebouchet demonstration, the displays of archery and swordsmanship etc. You can get a buy one get one free ticket from Tesco.s which saves 19 quid on the entry too.

I'm glad we took a packed lunch though. The food and drink isnt cheap there. Just thought I'd share my day out with you lot.

Now I'm back to the garage to finish off setting those pre-laods up.

Back to reality tomorrow!!!

Trebuchets are awesome! The ICBM of the Middle Ages.

I didn't know Warwick had one so that's now on my list to visit.

Cheers,

Ian

Ian
Its the biggest Trebuchet in the world mate. They fire it twice a day, and it is a fantastic thing to watch. Especially the 5 o'clock one, as they fire a burning 50kg ball about 1000 feet. Truly spectacular.

I was so intersted I bought a model Trebuchet to put next to my model MGB and my model V8 Drag engine. But the wife has taken it to school already as she is going to be doing medievel warfare as a project for her class when the new term starts. Doubt if I'll see that again !!!

Have you seen the pumpkin chuckers in the states? There is a whole class for treb's with 50 foot booms, fun or what! Some one built one over here to chuck a Mini aswell (did one on scrap-heap challange for a mini aswell but that one didn't work!)

got most of a spare chevy in the garage, that driving a nice big hydraulic pump and acumulator into a gang of fast acting rams at the short end of a 40 foot arm we could lay seige to warwick with pumpkins. now there is a project!

I really fancy one of the truck mounted compressed air cannons they use in the States. Have to have a firearms certificate though as it would be considerably over 12 ft. lbs.

I know someone with a class 1 we could call "project manager" as far as the powers are concerned! , though I guess down in Devon such things are a little easier to get than around here.
