You seem to be getting somewhere.

If you can keep it running when hot, by raising the idle speed, set the AFM mixture screw to 2.5 turns out from fully home and if the AFM is working properly that will not be far from correct. If it dies go back to your former setting.

If it still remains running you should now be able to check for rogue air leaks as instructed in my test program.

http://www.vintagemodelairplane.com/pag ... djust.html

The reason I say this, is that an unmetered air leak can introduce an uncontrollable situation as far as the ECU is concerned, but by raising the idle speed you may have allowed the ECU to regain some control despite a possible air leak.

Go thro the program and see what happens.

Two other thoughts.

Does the EAV fully close when the engine is hot. and

I cant remember, Have you checked the throttle pot for electrical noise.

Regarding the latter, If it is totally knackered the noisy signal it generates can the ECU into thinking the engine wants to accelerate and pump in more fuel by double pulsing the injectors - even when idling - and that might explain why the plugs are being fouled.

Also bypass the overrun cutoff valve (easily done with a piece of wire with two spade crimps on it) and check that the relay that it controls works properly and passes the ignition signal back to the ECU.

Chris.

Thanks for all your help,
It seems to be running OK now and have checked for air leaks and all round with no problems.
Took it for its MOT, failed on a couple of bits including the emissions but a quarter turn on the AFM sorted that.
Thanks again,
Paul :D

Paul, I'm pleased you have got it running OK and I've been back over the thread to see what fixed it? I'm confused!

Was it the new coil or something else???

Ramon, The above quote is from last Fridays post so I think it was the AFM mixture that was out, it was definately fuel related as it was still sparking? I set it to 1.5 turns out to get it running and it is now 2.75 for the MOT, although when i was having the original problem it was set at 2.5 as you had recommended before? Whether it has anything to do with actually driving it and clearing the s**t out the system,
(3750rpm/100mph :D for a few miles, on a private road of course )
Thanks again for everyones help and suggestions,
Paul

Paul, thats what confused me because in reality those are very small changes (OK it got the mixture sorted) for the system to be so completely upset.

Hence me thinking it may have been something else in parallel.

Please keep us informed!
