Rover SD1 Efi System, Testing and Adjustment
I have rewritten my Rover SD1 Efi System, Testing and Adjustment program, and have added it to a growing collection of Hints, Tips and “How To’s”.
The Rover SD1 Efi system has gained an undeserved reputation for unreliability. On many cars, this is wholly due to long term neglect, lack of cleanliness and poor maintenance.
If you are interested you can read or download the revised program from the following location:
http://uk.blog.360.yahoo.com/maureen9235
You will need Adobe Reader 5.0 or later, installed on your computer, and sometimes, my Yahoo file storage site suffers from download congestion so please try later if you get bounced. However, if anyone cannot access the document please let me know.
Regards Ramon

Works fine for me. More pics / diagrams would be nice, but overall it's a very useful paper you've written.

Richard, Many thanks. This is intentionally a shortform essay. I also have a comprehensive reader friendly document condensed and modified for SD1 Efi's from the Land Rover Tech Training Manual, but sadly, subsequently plagerised word for word by a digital conman, so I stopped pushing it. But hey! It's the internet, nothing surprises me.Richard wrote:More pics / diagrams would be nice:)

I very much applaud the effort but the article is incomplete and/or inaccurate in many places. It will lead to frustration in many instances.
There are a few sites that can be a BIG help to the home garagiste with a flapper.
For example, click http://www.pixeltechnology.co.uk/wedge/epistles.pdf

Racer, I dont set out to mislead or frustrate the SD1 Efi community, and normally welcome informed comment on errors and omissions but your criticism is non constructive.racer wrote:I very much applaud the effort but the article is incomplete and/or inaccurate in many places. Please advise on the instances have you found and your suggestions for addition and correction. If your inputs are within the context of the essay I can then try to incoporate them.

I do not doubt your good will and admire your effort to help others. However, to correct and make more rigorous the information you posted would be too hard a task. That is why I posted the Wedge Epistles for you. So that you could compare and improve your work.
There is nothing more frustrating for someone alone in their garage than trying to fix anything with insufficent information. We have all been there.
By way of an example, you dismiss, almost in its entirety, an explanation of the functioning and tuning of the very heart of the system, the Bosch L-Jetronic Air Flow Meter from which the whole setup takes its name, the "flapper". What you do offer is incorrect..or at least misleading as, in your point 4, where you simply talk about "dumb garages" and tell the owne, to set the idle air screw arbitrarily at 2.5 turns from the bottom becuase that is "ok". Why would you assume that? Adjustment screws are installed where it is envisaged that adjustment will necessary. If a single position was to suffuce, there wouldn't be an adjustment screw.
You also make no mention of the spring tension adjustment, the contact point for the fuel pump and how, in fact, to set the device at all. (It can only be set with a Co2 tester.)
As this is the most important component in the system, it is a MUST for people to understand it thoroughly. It is analgous trying to tune an old carb'ed car without touching jets, needles, idle and air adjustment. You mention Manuals (which do not exist for this AFM) and discourage them touching it when to ignore the Flapper AFM is to ignore most of the system.
Other areas have been similarly dealt with.
May I suggest again you start off with the Epistles. There is also a lot of other stuff up on the web and in my own archives that can take you even further. When you wish, I can send you much more and help you with it at your convenience.

I have met Ramon many times over the years and can only comment on his enthusiasm and useful information he has taken time to prepare and make available, being a fellow TP Vitesse owner, (still haven't fitted cruise yet, Ramon
) got all the bits, control switch is fitted
We all don't have the answers, and that is where forums come in, creating the information exchange, which I have found very useful over that past few years.
Don't want members falling out
Keep up the good work - Everybody
