Hi all,
Just wondered how serious / what this noise could be from my SD1 V8 Stag - always have regular oil changes (Millers Racing 10 60) and this is first time I've heard this deep knock which is more of a loud clack noise under load when cold and in line with revs but becomes this deep knock when warm and starts about 1000 rpm and reduces about 3550 rpm - hope this vid helps but any advice very welcome, thanks
Cheers
Ian

Re: Knocking noise from my SD1 RV8 in Stag
Real hard to tell from the vid
1st thing I would check is that it hasnt blown an ex manifold gasket , doesnt sound like its running on all cylinders , maybe check each manifold runner for even temps and if you can identify a dead cyl do a compression check ...... doesnt sound great tho

I wish I was young again , Id be heaps smarter than the first time

Thank you for the advice, will do theses checks and was going to pull each plug lead (with a glove on .....) to check if noise disappears at each cylinder - if not will add some wynns thick oil treatment to see for noise changes etc

Thanks again for advise given above - as an update and hopefully to help others, fingers crossed I've dodged some expense - for now.......... I ran the engine from cold with a stethescope testing noises around engine from sump up to heads - when cold the noise was more of a clack and softened to a low bassy sound as it got to temp. As I have exhaust wrap over tubular manifolds it was masking a hairline gap at one manifold gasket which closed up as heat built up and the wrap muffled the sound to make more of the bassy big end tone - very pleased for now.........
