Oil pump gears modification
Found a picture of a gear mod by drilling small countersinks in the bottom of the oil pump gears, I am installing new gears in a SD1 front cover, any thought on this mod please ?

Re: Oil pump gears modification
If you look at an old bottom plate, it is often scratched. Perhaps an attempt to prevent this? Not sure whether it would make any difference, though.

Re: Oil pump gears modification
I forget where I got this from, I guess the idea is oil gets trapped in the countersunk bits and is more of a cushion of oil underneath the gears ?
Re: Oil pump gears modification
I think you always have an oil cushion otherwise the end would wear away real fast.
I suspect the scoring is causes by tiny occasional bits of crud in the oil that have yet to be filtered out.
