Rover SD1 Vs other 3.5's

Post by Cjhols »

Hi all,
Just a question are the 3.5 Rover SD1's and all other 3.5's from the same time (1976 - 1986 Land Rover etc...) all have the same internals that can be swapped? And were these engines different depending on which country eg: Oz Vs. UK.

I want to order parts and want to know if they are interchangeable???

My engine number =15A02692 SD1 Auto 8.13:1CR Australia 1976-87
Thank
Peter

Basically yes. The differences relate to compression ratio (pistons), and camshaft. The distributors were different to suit the compression ratio etc. But they will interchange physically.

The other major difference is that the timing cover on the Range Rover version is very different to the SD1 version. But you can interchange them as long as you interchange the sump as well.

P38 only really the heads will be usable for the 3.5, many parts from the RR classic 3.5 are the same. If you want to upgrade to a 4.0 or 4.6 from a P38 you can use earlier parts on the later engine.
