Distributer / Vacuum advance screw size

Hi,

My Westfield SEiGHT is currently in the garage for winter maintenance and I don't know how long ago this has happened, but my vavuum advance is no longer part of the distributer. Both screws are missing





Does anyone know what size screws they are?

I will check later on, I have a couple in the shed. One of them from an 88 Rangerover had the advance weight spring come off, I found out when the engine stopped on the way home from work one day, went to take the cap off the distributor and the top of the body moved, the weights had worn a groove right through the body and separated it into two.

Thanks Paul, that would be appreciated. I'm hoping it is something like an M3 or M4 thread, but with everything else on the engine being Imperial, it may be more obscure than that...

One has small self tappers, the other is a torx t15 which measures 3.2mm Dia and 8mm long, so probably a 1/8 bsw or something like that. Maybe try www.distributordoctor.com for the correct ones, they had the felt bushes I needed for mine.

I can say what it's not. It's not M3 or 4. M3.5 (13 amp socket fixing screws) does make a start, as do Lucas front indicator lens fixing screws from my SD1, which are UNC - something like 8-32. BA 4&6 don't fit either. So maybe 5BA?

Just get a tap and tap it to a known size, whether that be M5 or something and get a couple of nice screws for it.

Or thread lock a couple of little studs in place so you can fit nuts on.

As you say, it is more than likely some obscure imperial size at present.
