I cant see them getting support for this in some of the newer members of the EU. In Poland for example where the cost of a new car is very expensive in relation to wages and living costs etc most cars are more than 10 years old. Probably 10% of the cars on the road out there are fiat 126's. How are these people supposed to buy a new car every 10 years? More genius from Brussels..

It will happen eventually. It will get to a point where we are not allowed to modify cars, work on our own cars, but I think it may be a few years yet. Probably won't be able to fart without a permit before long.

It's becoming a very sad country, full of hippies (most of em students) They dont realise that if all cars over 10 years old are banned, they will all go to scrap which is also bad for the environment. And a lot of cars are over 10 years old.

These people haven't got two brain cells to rub together to start a fire with.

Won't do any good at all, but I will sign it.

And of course, the biggest supporters of this new bill, and those pushing it to the max financially, will be the car makers, so we don't have a hope in hells chance of changing anything.

I'll sign anyway.

We have already seen the part P regs that restrict us from doing a bit of diy electrics at home. (as if??)
How long before we have another reg that stops us doing work / mods / servicing on our cars because we are not qualified mechanics??

That brings us neatly onto the debate as to the difference between a "mechanic" and a "fitter" !!!

Would any of you trust your average kwik fit fitter to work on your cars?
Personally I get nervous going in for tyres! I always insist they use trolley jacks instead of those things that lift the car up under the sills.

MGB you can still do the leccy yourself but you are supposed to get it inspected and a safety cert issued by a qualified spark. I've just re-wired my whole workshop (still a few bits to do actually!) In prep for some higher power consumption eqt. Not sure they'll be too pleased to see the consumer unit on the wall 2ft above the parts washer...

Indeedi. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my car. Some of them are absolute idiots, they really are.

It always amuses me aswell, that when I have a problem with it, everyone is suddenly a car expert. "Oh your thing's gone", "oh thats knackered", "Oh the man from kwik fit says your doo daa needs changing"

By law your only allowed to connect the items up your not allowed to plan or run the cables and your not allowed to connect up stuff like a DB. So basically your ok to put a socket or a new light up but nothing before that. Kinda the opposite as gas where you can run the pipes but your not allowed to connect then to anything.
