Setting up EFi

Post by acs »

I have my V8 running now and not going too bad. My next question is how do I setup the mixture and tick over rate. As my engine gets warm it has a tendency to stall.

I know there is the tick over adjustment on the plenium chamber and I believe the mixture adjustment is on the MAF sensor.

Is there any process to follow to set it up or do I just play until I get it right.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Cheers

You really need an exhaust gas analyser to set it up properly. I used a Gunsons analyser and it sailed through the MOT afterwards.

And I have a feeling that the stalling is partly due to the camshaft, I have seen elsewhere on this forum that there is very little torque at tickover. My auto 3.5EFi with std. Range Rover cam definitely can stall when idling in gear with the PAS being worked too.

Ah cheers for that I'll see what I can find.

Most of the Gunsons I have seen only do up to 6 cylinders is that just for the gas cause I know they can do the dwell and other bits as well.

The gunsons thing does only do 6 cyl max., but that's only for ignition stuff. I set it to 4 cyl and halve the readings for RPM. For the gas measurements, it's irrelevant. So if you have your ignition somewhere near, it works just fine.
