Swirl Pot Fuel Pump Capacity

Post by FarnhamStag »

Hi,
I'm about to upgrade my fuel system to include a 2L capacity swirl pot because of cavitation problems at low fuel tank levels with the 044 pump feeding my injection.

I've bought all the bits but am having doubts about the capacity of the Facet red top pump which will be feeding the swirl pot, which is rated to 200+hp.
The car makes around 450hp now, I was hoping that since there would be very little back pressure on the Facet and the 2L storage capacity in the swirl pot would soften the demands on the pump.

Have I bought the wrong pump or use this pump in this way at similar power levels?

Thanks Dorian

Apologies for the typo..I meant to ask if anyone else uses this pump in this way at those power levels!

Hi

I have a similar set up on the GT40 but only do 250 ish hp

I would doubt the red top would cope at450 hp

Seen it said 15cc per hp per minute and your 450 hp equates to 405 litres per hour or around 90 gallons per hour, about double that of the Red Top

Of course you can then take comfort with the fact you have a cushion built into the swirl pot, but could you drain the swirl at full power before the next corner? A gamble and for the rice of something like a Carter pump I would not chance the value of an engine!

The Carter pump Ian mentioned would be a much wiser option. The Facet is in no way capable

Too late :( bought a Holley redtop... In reality I think the Facet + the 2L swirlpot would have been fine for use on the road, I rarely use full power and if I do its for a second or two max..might be different on the track though!

Thanks anyway everyone for the advice,
