Forged Setup Advice

Post by Coops »

Hi all,
looking at going for a forged set up now in the 4.6.
looking for advice (not criticism) on the routes I can go,
parts needed (maybe part numbers links)
machine work if needed,
is there an option for the least amount of machining work or no machine work etc,
Will also be looking for advice on cam set up too at a later date,
cheers guys,

Im on a knife edge at present if to carry on or sell up and cut my losses and pull out of owning a v8 for a while,

Tony

Are you not already at the limit of reliability with Rover?

Is it jot time to move over to Chevvy where you will get far more power for less £££££&

Not an option mate if that's the case everything is going.
Not going through another transplant engine box etc
Rover was running fine except for the recent mishap

Unless someone has a LS engine. Box, prop and headers lol going cheap.
But doubt it lol

Speak to Roland at ACR near Chester.
I went for the 5.0 option that uses a stroked crank, chevy rods and forged 96mm pistons.

He also supplies 94mm forged pistons that fit standard rods.

cheers Del, will give him a shout, ASAP

Spoke to a V8 parts company about one of there short engines advertised the reply was not what I need as my supercharger is too much for the internals,???? and would cost lots of money to build a bottom end to handle it, its a forged bottom end though
was then told turn the boost down and forget about going quick and enjoy the car, still need a fekkin engine though :x

I give up lol, I try to get things sorted and no one seems willing to help with parts :(
Maybe I should sell the supercharger and go back to boring efi :(

fingers crossed I can Pel,

Del spoke to Roland, they don't do a 94mm forged piston,
they do a 96mm one that fits to stock 4.6 rods.

Aah yes sorry.
A rebore to 96mm on your tophats is only £300 tops IIRC.
The 96mm pistons take it to 4.8 ltr.
If you want the forged rods, with floating pins and spring locks (much better IMHO) then you need to have the offset crank also and that takes it to 5.0

yes Elliot.
please don't give me a lecture just about had enough of that on facebook over boost and cast pistons,
The engine was never meant really to run this amount of boost, but for some reason the 6psi it was meant to be running it is not,
Running the largest pulley they list too to play it safe until we could afford to either buy and engine or do the forged setup,
Ran fine for 2 1/2 yrs but think they finally had enough lol

Hence why looking at the forged route now if the blocks ok.
