Valve guide mods
4.6 rover heads- I have got to shorten my valve guides because the cam lift is too much, have a tool for doing it but then it takes away the recess for the valve seals, and they wont fit, whats the cure will the manta ones that people talk about do? if they will work anyone got a part number.

This was all TVR did to accommodate more lift but they didnt trim the port protruding excess offBaracus wrote:You could just press the valve guides a touch further into the head (and possibly shorten the nose end, if your tool fits in the port end).

Real Steel did my first set and John Eales did my second set of heads for this. They have a milling tool that extends the shoulder down as well as trimming the top off. Then you fit the normal blue push on seals.

I have used Crane viton seals. I machined the top of the guide to suit these seals with a Crower 86079 tool. It machines the OD to accept the seal and also has a tool to shorten the guide.

I have read the above posts and tried the seals suggested by Darkspeed although the little spring clip seal retainers popped of a tad too easily for my liking. Somebody previously mentioned blue neoprene ones. Are these any better? As above, my guides have been machined so there is now no retention groove. Is there a solution or a combination of Loctite and try again?
The cylinder heads look lovely all machined....they just need a rebuild.

I believe P38 engines all had a different guide where the top of the guide was machined to about 0,5" outer diameter, about 5/16" long.
See rimmerbros.co.uk and search LGJ000030. They don´t have a retention groove, the seal is pushed on and the metal retainer ring secures it in place. Real Steel stocks Comp Cams seals, BY510-16 is the one for 0,500" guide diameter and 11/32 valve stem diameter.
