I've run my Merc 420SEL on 100% LPG (including starting on it) for well over 18 months now, even in the depths of last winter I didn't have a problem.

I'm using an OMVL R90E vapouriser which I've been mightily impressed with....

Hi mate, it's the Rangie 3.5 AFM on the car with no anti-backfire release valve on it (leaving the pipe from AFM to Plenum loose works well enough!). It did have the anti-backfire thing on, but it didn't do a great deal!

Could be worth pulling the air filter off the AFM and check/make sure that the 'flap' inside is still moving freely. At rest, it should be at the front of the unit and should move smoothly all the way back and then return to the front (it's spring loaded). If the fuel pump relay is getting power wit...

Just a thought (more of a recollection from when I did it actually...). It's not run out of petrol has it? Took me ages to figure out why it wouldn't start, then the Mrs threw that idea into the fray.

I felt very, very silly...!

Hi Stu, it's the flapper EFI system, not the hotwire ;) (it's my old car) As for problems, it still sounds like a problem with power getting to the fuel pump to me (still reckon it's got to be a loose wire), unless something's gone wrong with the petrol/lpg switch that means it's trying to start on ...

Yep, I made a mistake in the original post, I went off what the seller told me... Turns out it is a 400ci (6.6 litre) motor, rated at 265bhp and 400 ft lbs (@2400rpm!) :D

5.7 litres is not 400ci;

5.7 is 350 cubic inches

Thanks for the info, I'd wondered why it had Blazer on the VIN plate under the bonnet (sorry, hood!), now I know!

Few more pics and a bit of info - told you I was going to get it muddy! Me and a mate of mine decided to go off-roading at a place we know not far from Leicester in a place called Sibbertoft. It's the first time I've taken the truck off-road and I have to say it performed admirably for saying it's 3...

My 1975 Chevy K10

Perhaps not the usual vid for the site, but I went for a play off-roading in my Chevy K10 pickup truck (with a 400ci SBC) and took a couple of vids. This one is me going a little quick up a hill without realising that the track on the other side was over to the right.... I made a new path down the s...

Mixer for Edelbrock performer 600cfm carb

Can anyone tell me where to get a good mixer for the above carb? I've seen RPI selling an 'active' mixer so that it doesn't impare the performance on petrol, are these any good? (http://www.rpiv8.com/faq-lpg-gen-front-end.htm) Or would a more traditional type mixer be better? If so, where would I ge...

Cheers for that Badger, most informative! Mine has an auto gearbox, so I'll most definitely use the 3.5 cam in it. As it's something of a budget engine rebuild, I'll most probably use the stock 9.35:1 pistons in this engine (it'll be a sight better than the low comp engine that's coming out!!).

Fitting a 3.9 cam to a 3.5 engine

Is there any advantage fitting a 3.9 cam to a 3.5 engine in terms of torque? I've heard that it can give an extra 10bhp or so, but what would it do to the midrange/bottom end? Or would I be best getting hold of a stock 3.5 cam. I'm far too tight to buy a piper or a kent cam ;) All to be going on a f...

How to identify my carb?

As I'm a curious sort of chap, I'd like to know exactly what carb is on my new (to me) pickup. It's got a 400 cubic inch SBC engine in it and it's got an Edelbrock carb on it. How do I tell what model of carb it is? Should there be a model number on it somewhere?

Cheers, Martin
