It appears that one side had been re-threaded at some time and appeared to have gone into the water jacket.
I fitted a suitable plug amongst some bits just to be sure.
I left the other side open.

Thanks Denis.
I got the picture from the internet so could have come from a user on this website.
I seem to remember Discovery being mentioned.

P38 Timing Cover

Does anybody have a timing cover like the one on the left in the pic below.
Looking to drop a 4.6 into my Rover P6 and think i may have clearance issues.
Thanks.

That's what you would think but on one side at least i can see the casting for a cylinder.
I'll try a thin bit of wire to see if it will push around into the water jacket.
Would still like to blank off anyway.

I know one of the lads there. Why don't you ring them for the info you need?
It isn't usual practice for them to 'build' an engine rather recondition one for you or your garage mechanic to build.

The items shown in the photo are parts relating to the automatic standard arrangement of the 4.6 engine as fitted to the Range Rover. The items only relevant to your case will be the sensor and toothed arrangement shown on the pic of the flywheel. The flywheel fitted to your TVR will be originally f...

I'm either going to fit the P6 autobox or convert to manual using an LT77 already recond.

I also prefer to use the engine in it's original guise with the better oil pump .
I've also a 3.9 engine i could fall back on.

Cheers

I have a weber 500 and intake manifold i've had for years but not got round to fitting, so would prefer the carb route.

Where is the best source for the Megasquirt/jolt units?

Cheers

Distributorless ignition help.

Hi everyone. My be an obvious topic somewhere but cannot locate it at hte mo. I'm looking at fitting a 4.6 into my Rover P6 and keeping the serpentine set up. This would mean using a toothed wheel etc plus megajolt or similar. I'm only interested in a basic no frills set up to use the existing coil ...

I'd like at the very least to retain the GEMS coil pack even if this means getting a Megajolt unit. I have a new inlet manifold and weber 4 barrell carb if all else fails on the fuelling side. Interested in the oil filter facing backwards by fitting an alternative cover. Although a remote take-off c...

I was considering trying to make things more basic without going back to carb(s). Possibly use a suitable Megasquirt in conjunction with the existing loom to the engine maybe? If the BW35 goes pop, i've always got an LT 77 2wd manual box to fall back on. As you rightly say, there might be complicati...

Range Rover 4.6 into Rover P6 3500

Any advice much appreciated on what i will require from the donor vehicle (1995 Rangey) apart from the obvious. I have quite a bit of the loom as i intend to keep it injection , plus the large box which was fitted under the driver seat and what i think is the ECU under the passenger seat. I am going...

The oven cleaner approach looks interesting, how long did you leave it on?

I've used caustic soda crystals with water to make a strong cleaning solution in the past.

Might also raid the kitchen cupboard and have a go at the baking soda idea on some cleaner ally.

Chemical Cleaning Aluminium?

Anybody familiar with this process. I've seen parts that have been cleaned this way and it seems to do a good job. Parts almost look like new. What exactly is it and what chemical is used? I've heard of vapour blasting which should 'clean' the aluminium better, but from my experience, any chemical c...
