Re: Camshaft: Trying to identify and check
Interestingly... Whilst binnin 20+ years of shite, found some paperwork from the RV8 stuff and the DW270 Typhoon cam. Although it's probably readily available anyway Intake Lobe centre 110deg ATDC Lobe centre separation 110 camshaft degrees Duration at 0.050" lift is 221 intake, 215 exhaust Ca...

Re: Camshaft: Trying to identify and check
Well I have the 'old' cam out now and taken a couple of photo's: IMG_3775.jpg IMG_3780.JPG Seems to be marked on end DJE 218/220 (the DJE may not be quite correct) with a small section wiped out and a couple of small blue marks. On the side of the cam just before the second (from front) journal ther...

Re: Camshaft choice for a 3.9 EFi engine.
Thanks Frank I've decided to go for the Piper 270i. They are made to order apparently with a lead of 7 days, hopefully that means I'll get it before the holidays and have some time then to get it fitted. I checked out he spec's for their cams, lining them up side by side and it seems the only candid...

Re: Camshaft choice for a 3.9 EFi engine.
Thanks Frank. I guess V8tuning or anyone else retailing the Hurricane cam will be in a similar position to me as, if I've understood correctly, Real Steel are the source for these cams. I was looking at the Piper cams yesterday but got confused by the numbers, it would be really helpful if cam manuf...

Camshaft choice for a 3.9 EFi engine.
Hi all, looking for some help on camshafts. After investigating the cam I have in an finding it is a bit on the wild side (most likely Viper Typhoon - See https://www.v8forum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16222) and this is possibly what is giving me less than optimal running at low RPM & idle I'd...

Good to hear. Thanks for feeding back.
My guess is that fuel pump was the bigger part of the problem. But I've been wrong before!

Re: Rover 3.9 14CUX Hotwire - Fires Up but Won’t Run
This weekend’s update… :D Found two interesting things, so adding it here in case it helps others. Firstly I did a smoke test on the intake system. My cheapo solution was to do as follows: 1. Remove plenum intake pipe and maf. 2. Cable tie the throttle butterfly open. 3. Find a suitable plug for th...

Re: Rover 3.9 14CUX Hotwire - Fires Up but Won’t Run
As I said about 20 years ago! I was fairly sure it was black……but mind played tricks. When that wire came disconnected my car would start but not run. Ian That's surprising, with no pulse from the coil there is nothing to trigger an injection cycle (calculation and injector trigger) so should not r...

Re: Camshaft: Trying to identify and check
I would say a cam swap makes the most sense. Deep down I believe you are right Steve, anything else is probably just papering over the cracks. Worst case scenario I could always swap it back further down the line, I'll keep all the lifters labelled up so it could go back. Looks like I've got my pla...

Re: Camshaft: Trying to identify and check
So the question I have to answer now is do I live with this as-is or pop a new one in there? Not a job I particularly want to do (or pay for) but could make the car a whole lot more satisfying to drive. It's horrible having to do work... The experiment I tried with the turbo Mini and the Kent 286 w...

Re: Rover 3.9 14CUX Hotwire - Fires Up but Won’t Run
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkH5lvJaISw Around 8:45 to 9:00 minutes in Ian Didn't realise Alan Partridge did EFi! That wire he's talking about is the feed to the coil, although it may come out in the same area as the AFM bundle it is not related, this is the ignition trigger, and should go thro...

Re: Rover 3.9 14CUX Hotwire - Fires Up but Won’t Run
Hi Do you disconnect the multi plug or also the black wire? From memory (2006) it goes MAF to distributor and being black just disappears against other wires and looms. My car did something similar and the black wire had come off Ian Now you're worrying me. My MAF (Standard 5AM) only has the multi-...

Re: Ignition advance with ECU controlled ignition - Should it be this high?
Just thought I'd add a bit to this. I recently checked my camshaft as per https://www.v8forum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=123014#p123014 Although all seems good it seems that the slightly wild characteristics of this cam could be the cause of the high timing requirement. Just trying to decide on pla...

Re: Camshaft: Trying to identify and check
OK, thought I'd close the loop on this. I checked all the lobes on my cam. Positives are: All lobes gave the same profile within measurement uncertainty which would say my cam is good even if it's not the most suited to me. The peak positions were in the correct location, don't have the figures in f...

Re: Rover 3.9 14CUX Hotwire - Fires Up but Won’t Run
Do you know what tune you are running? RG will give you a tune number & ident, of course that's no guarantee that the chip may not have been altered since. Fuel pressure would definitely be my next check so it's good you've got that on the go. Is it a standard regulator mounted on the fuel rail ...
