Because you can run it in conjunction with a turbo and lower the CR for full boost
Also make the CR throttle dependent as part throttle the effective cylinder pressures are lot lower so for pootling you raise the CR and lower it when you open the taps

Its clever stuff

Hello Dave Hopefully you'll see this . The trouble with setting ignition timing on the rollers is that everthing tends to get very hot as even with the dyno fnas etc its still not like running down the open road especially with TVR's as the plakky body keeps everything very toasty indeed. I don't kn...

Hello Dave I'd turn my broddling attentions to the lower inlet manifold as they are typically badly matched to the heads so some port matching would help here. Also I used to run 10.25:1 CR in my old Emerald equipped wedge and that was running 32° spark flat out. This was on 98RON and ran like that ...

Carl is the technical guy at Emerald, very knowledgeable chap. You may need a rev counter driver depending on the make of your instrumnet, the VDO one I used with the emerald with could be driven directly from the ECU. Definitly fit a wide band lambda sensor as well, the latest K3 emerald will make ...

Sorry should have said good old rover is the candidate, the 350 part of the moniker is from when I owned a 350i TVR

and the previous cam was Iksy 282 hydraulic grind

I was coming down in favour of V8 developments Stealth grind for this build

How much compression ratio can you get away with?

As the title says gents, I've used 10.5:1 in the past with a fairly long 280° cam and it gave no problems, admittedly I de-burred the combustion chamber when I ported it but I still ended up at 32° of advance on full load at 6K. Should also say that this was with fully distributor less mapped igniti...

I'd say put is somewhere 'quiet' in terms of turbulance, so either at the top in a corner or at the bottom , providing its not close to a trumpet intake thats good also use a max of a 3mm hole for the initial 'feed' point to provide a little bit of damping to the signal

Open the chambers out to the gasket line around the valves, the inlet is quite badly shrouded and you don't lose loads off the CR either

I ran Rhoads lifters for about 60K and yes they do what they claim in terms of softening a long cam at low revs. However on a hot restart when the car has been sat just a little while (say at a petrol station) they tended to have leaked right down and so made a a god awful clatter on restart which t...

I did quite abit of testing on this sort of thing when I worked at Cosworth, liner coatings on the whole weren't very effective and the ones which did give power were scraped off by the rings fairly quickly. Piston coatings on the running faces does work tho' we used a DLC / Balinite C coating all o...
