I've read up on the FASD unit and mine has been converted to a manual choke at some time, so I wonder if I can just block D off? I can't see how you can block D off if the FASD is still in operation, but manually. You could only do it if you had chokes on the carbs and used the cable to operate tho...

Thanks, I'll just block them off then (manual gearbox and no servo assisted brakes!).

B is for the Auto Choke (Used to be an AED, now it's FASD I think, which is the blue thing if I'm not mistaken) and D is probably the coolant temperature sensor for it, although it doesn't show up very clearly on my screen. Thanks; I've found the hose that connects B to the FASD unit. I've read up ...

Rover V8 inlet manifold connections

Hi, Please help me work out what to connect to where from these images (hopefully you can see them if I've done it right!): https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-M3ieoutZQpc/VUZB7cql8DI/AAAAAAAAFXk/PJC3XNLKFgk/w640-h480-no/manifoldfront2.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Z8ZLiobkHRI/VUZB7bn-P8I/AA...

Thanks, just worked it out after finding some more of the original hoses hidden in shed!

Rover V8 cooling hoses - manifold

Hi, There is a pipe that runs underneath the inlet manifold which I think connects to the top of the water pump (that's where the hose appears to fit anyway). There is also a hose connection coming out of the manifold itself which I have no idea where it connects to, could anyone tell me where it go...

Or a fitting for a radiator fan switch Yes some people run it from an engine temp sensor, but the water in the radiator may be at a very different temperature to the engine Ian It does have a fan switch already fitted near the top of the radiator (which is great as I am fitting an electric fan), an...

Re: Radiator question

Hi, I have a radiator which I bought ages ago for my v8 locost, however there is a 16mm pipe connector in the middle on one side which I have no idea what it is for - am I OK to just block it off? yes, but sounds like it was provision for a remote header tank fill point. That's the only thing I cou...

Thanks for the reply. I bought the radiator because it was the biggest size that would fit in my (RV8) locost, I don't even know what engine the radiator is supposed to be for. Anyway I'll block it off, I now just need to work out all the other pipework!!

Cheers

New Valve Guide fitting

Hi, I had new bullet valve guides fitted to my heads (RV8 3.5L) which will take proper oil stem seals. However, they don't appear to have been fitted very deep into the head - the shoulder is sitting about 6mm out and when the seals are fitted there is only around 7mm travel before the collets hit t...

Thanks for replies, I'll take the heads off and get the seats cut again to the same depth.
Will I be able to re-use the composite head gaskets?

Valve preload problems

Hi, Despite my rebuild taking ages (for various reasons), I've finally got the heads on and am fitting the rocker assembly. I have a shim kit for the rocker assembly posts, and eventually I worked out how to do the preload. However, I get big variations between valves. At first I wasn't sure why, be...

Doh! The rear cap only goes on one way, and has two large rubber cruciform seals which go on each side of the cap. These seals are a tight fit, and when I've pressed the cap into place a small piece of the seal broke off and landed on the journal. So it got compressed and has made a nice little dent...
