Devonman, give yourself a pat on the back you're 100% correct. As a last resort yesterday afternoon I pulled off my low-profile trapdoor sump and pickup and replaced with standard items. Problem solved! I'd already swapped the sump at least once when investigating my bogus oil flow issue, and had no...

OK, thanks all. I've now fixed a separate problem with oil pressure, and this seems to have helped a little with cooling, as I haven't since seen the temperature rise about 95, even when revving. Kiwicar - That's an interesting point about the coolant temp. I don't quite follow the physics, but it's...

Weird oil pressure issue
Further to my previous thread ( http://www.v8forum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8132 ), I've now got another strange oil issue with my 3.9 Rover V8. The engine has the interim timing cover with crank driven oil pump. I'm measuring pressure with a capilery gauge plumbed into the main gallery. When I r...

Not sure how you are measuring the temperatures, dash gauges are only very aproximate (+- 10 degrees). Having said that a presurised system should run in the range you have described, some on here try and run lower temperatures but the engine is intended to run in the range 90 to 100c. Temp is meas...

RV8 coolant temps
What sort of coolant temperature typically constitutes overheating for Rover V8 engines? My interim 3.9 will happy sit at 95 deg C all day long when at rest and idling, but if I rev the engine this can rise to just over 100. This is all based on running in the garage, as I've not got the car on the ...

Thought I'd resurrect this old thread to let anyone who's interested know what I found out when I had a chance to look at this again over Christmas. To recap - I was originally suspicious about oil flow as I was seeing very little oil oozing from the rockers at idle, despite my mechical gauge readin...

Ian: No Vaseline used, as I've not had the pump off - and the crank driven pumps don't need priming anyway from what I've read. Andrew: Yep the OEM hoses for connecting an oil cooler block the internal oil way to force the oil through the cooler. I thought that my blanking plugs could be obstructing...

Right, I've been looking at this problem again today - but I still can't figure out what going on. Here's where I'm at: - Oil pressure reading 40psi at idle, but hardly any oil getting to rockers - I've checked the rocker shafts are correctly fitted so that the flow is not obstructed - they are corr...

OK thanks for the ideas. I've just taken the rocker assembly off as suggested. Turning the engine on the starter, with plugs removed, I do get oil flow through to the rockers - but it is definitely an ooze rather than a spurt! I swapped the hoses on my remote filter head once again, just to see if t...

Thanks for replies so far... Spend: The longest I've run it as prob about 5 mins at a fast idle. But I'd expect the rocker shaft to fill up in much less than that? Chris: I have pressure (verified by mech gauge and the warning light), and do have a small amount of oil at the rockers - but certainly ...

Oil flow (or lack thereof)
Hi all, I have a 3.9 RV8 with the intermediate timing cover with crank driven oil pump. I'm seeing good oil pressure of around 40psi at idle, but I'm suspicious about oil flow as I seem to have very little oil arriving at the rockers. I've not run the engine for more than a few minutes, but all I se...

Oil cooler outlet/inlet (Rover V8)
Hi all, Does anyone know the size/thread of the oil cooler outlet/inlet holes located near the oil filter mount? My car will not be running an oil cooler - can I just plug these holes, or do I need to run a hose from one to the other? My engine is a 3.9 with intermediate front cover, if that makes a...

RV8 & T5 clutch options?
Hi, I have an RV8 mated to a Borg Warner T5 via a Rover/LR auto bellhousing with adapter plate. This is going in a seven, and although I built the chassis around the V8, I left very little space at the front of the transmission tunnel for clutch gubbins, so ideally I want to avoid the need to squeez...
