I know I'm being a bit dim here, but what's that thing on the side of the dizzy? Is it normal for the king lead to have a resistance of between 6.5K and 7K ohms? That's great! Thanks for your help. I was under the impression that the SD1 was fitted with Strombergs, not sure why.

Here's a few more photos. I've also just had to replace the starter motor which seems to be different to most starter motors advertised for the Rover V8. The wife had me laying a wooden floor over Christmas, so everything in my garage has a layer of sawdust (it was raining when I needed to cut up the wood!), so everything needs cleaning before I can get back onto it.
