I'm in Beds, near Leighton Buzzard. I need to have a think on what to do next. I get very little time to tinker at the moment. So I could use a day (maybe more with the speed I work at!) to put it back together and set up, to see if it still works, with a relatively high risk of it still not working...

Re: Is the Rover V8 an interference engine?
Is the Rover V8 3.5lt an interference engine? i.e. If the timing is completely wrong, will the pistons hit the valves? Yes. Last one I did that had a timing chain jump teeth, after I fitted a new chain and gears a compression check revealed zero compression on 5 out of 8 cylinders because of bent v...

Is the Rover V8 an interference engine?
Hi all. Is the Rover V8 3.5lt an interference engine? i.e. If the timing is completely wrong, will the pistons hit the valves? I've been trying to find this out for a little while (without actually taking mine apart!), and all the posts I've read where someone else has asked the same question, the r...

What's the difference between these sump gasket kits?
I'm looking for a gasket kit for the water pump and sump (and probably a few others by the time I'm finished!). Looking at the Rimmer Bros site ( http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID008874 ) there seems to be 5 items which have the same components included, but ranging in price from £12.50 to £7...

Does the timing chain have a tensioner?
Hi everyone. I have a Land Rover 109 with a 3.5 V8 from an SD1 in it. I've just taken the timing cover off (took me all day!) to find that the chain is way too loose. I know these are prone to stretching, but I can't see how the chain is tensioned up to account for wear. Are the sprockets and chain ...

What's that on the side of the dizzy?
I know I'm being a bit dim here, but what's that thing on the side of the dizzy? Is it normal for the king lead to have a resistance of between 6.5K and 7K ohms? Is it normal for the ignition coil to get hot while trying (for a while) to start the engine (without success so far!) Thanks for your hel...

Here's a few more photos. I've also just had to replace the starter motor which seems to be different to most starter motors advertised for the Rover V8. Might give us a clue! https://imageshack.com/i/hliD0rUPj https://imageshack.com/i/idG2kszoj https://imageshack.com/i/eyu4bPFSj https://imageshack....

Does (or could) anyone have a SD1 SU linkage photo?
I've had an issue with my landie which has had an SD1 V8 retro fitted with LPG where only the LPG would work. I suspected the carbs (twin HIF 44), and as I want to go through the landie gradually fixing her up, I thought I'd take them off and rebuild them. My suspicion was correct, most things that ...

Thanks for you reply. If I assume it is the SD1 engine, are there any other features on it other than the engine number that would confirm it is an SD1? It's has LPG, so they could have changed the carbs, but it does have SU's fitted rather than Strombergs. The oil filler is front-right as you look ...

Another odd engine number!
Hi. My rover v8 number is 10A2674 with a compression ratio of 9.35.1CR At first glance it looks like the SD1 engine number, but there is one number and one letter short. I'm going to try to attach an image... http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/339/imag25002.jpg By magicdrshoon at 2011-10-08 Any ideas ...
