I did, found it worked but made a awful noise on disengaging from flywheel, thought it was faulty and changed but still there, in the end lived with it for a few weeks and it settled, guess it needed bedding in to the old flywheel, did make me cringe badly ever time thou so be warned, works well now ...

I use one myself, no they cant be fitted either way, they are available but different part numbers and one is more expensive than the other.

I fitted a Hi Torque Powerlite starter to my 3.9 2years ago, was noisey when dis-engaging once fitted, had it changed and still had same problem. Checked teeth and the amount etc , all the usual things to check but couldnt find out why it released with such a awful clank, left for a few weeks and ...

Help a bit, 2nd pic is solenoid, normally mounted to body inner wing, 2 large terminals, 1 batt, 1 starter, 1 small terminal is live when cranking engine over, you obviously have an old style starter, most now have the solenoid built on top.

Just an update, after removing and double checking everything I found no differences with the geared starter compared to the original, same teeth, diameter etc, therefore ordered a replacement from Rimmers.
This they changed no problem and where very happy to exchange, fitted it and exactly the same ...

thanks Paul, have measured the gear and evrything etc seems to add up the same, have spoken to Rimmer Bros again and ther sending me another, will let u all know if it cures the problem

Anyone have any dealings with these geared starter motors?

Just had one from Rimmer bros, the old SD1 kept packing in every 6 months, soleonids packing up after car only being used 6 months of the year; All fitted ok, and starts no problem, on disengaging it makes a loud screech noise, sounds ...

Bit late i know, I have used the colour tune on my v8 and balancer, im running quad downdrafts, balancing is easy when you practiced and as for the colourtune I found when set as the instructions it was actually a little rich, done final adjustments by hand, easy telling it was rich as black spots ...

I have a 3.9 engine which has a 3.5 SD1 sump on, unsure if dip stick is for the 3.5 or 3.9, any idea how much I should put in? I guess the same as a 3.5 but dont know how much that is, theres no oil cooler etc, its standard oil wise, thankyou

If you connected it incorrest 1st time you may have blown a diode inside, just a thought.

Cant help with connections, my alternator only has main battery cable and wire to dash charge bulb, thats it.
