Re: Valve spring installed height.
Thanks for your replies. It seems from what has been said that I should assemble the valve springs with no shims, then fit heads using solid tappets and adjustable pushrods. Adjust pushrod to take out any slack then measure clearance between coils on each spring with cam on full lift. Then shim spri...

Valve spring installed height.
Admin reminded me I haven't been on here for a long time and as it happens I do have a problem right now. I have a set of double valve springs for our 4.6 I want to fit but not sure what the installed height should be. They are after market springs but I don't know which brand, It seems that most af...

Thanks for all the advice, over the last few weeks i've checked or look at just about every thing mentioned. I was pleased that no one thought the .018'' crank end float was the cause, (big job to put right). To day i had the crank and water pump pulley's checked on a lathe. The crank pulley runs tr...

Up date on the above. Now that Iv'e had the vehicle a bit longer i find that the engine is throwing the alt/water pump belt off on a regular basis. I've tried several different make's of belt with the same resault. I have added a guide pully on the unloaded side (crank to alt) as this is where the b...

Thanks for replies. Iv'e checked all the normal things i.e. belt alignment, belt tension, alternator condition etc. But two things mentioned may be on the right track. Firstly the large drop in RPM may not be because there is a heavy load on the alternator, but rather the lack of torque at low RPM, ...

Is the battery too small
I have a 3.5 V8 carb engined comp safari Land Rover, only electrics are fuel pumps, ignition and 2 X 12'' cooling fans. But the alternator V belt wear's out very quickly, (one event). When both fans are switched on with the engine running at tick over, the engine speed will drop by app 400rpm. This m...

DaveEFi. you say a wide band lambda sensor can be used to control a hot wire ECU, but that the ECU won't learn anything. By this do you mean it won't remember or store previous information or settings. If this is so, on re starting the engine would the ECU function as before, once it receive's input...

Opinion seems to be that the EFi and the flaper system want work well with a modified engine. I had hoped the EFi system would sort out what was needed with the input from various censers including the lamda censer in the exhaust. With twin S U's I can adjust the mixture at idle and try various need...

Thanks again for replies. So far we have one vote for Hot Wire as fitted to 3.9 Disco. One for Megasquirt and one for the flapper type system. As I have 4 off road L/Rovers to maintain and repair at the moment,( three V8's on carbs + one TDi) I think the megasquirt is to time consuming to get involve...

Fuel Injection for Land Rover V8
Presently rebuilding a 3.5 V8 for my comp safari land rover. The engine has had some tuning in the past, ie, omega pistons, 3.9 heads, balanced rods and competition cam shaft ect. At the moment it runs on standard twin SU carbs, but I would like to fit fuel injection. Can anyone reccomend the best s...
