How about the spark plugs. They are expensive, so many hesitate to change them. Ours were so run down they looked like the ones I took out of a boat engine from 1972!
Rusty and worn.
It might be that the new plugs made a bigger difference than the AFM.

That's the way the temp gauge should behave/behaves in wifeys rangie.
Glad you could (hopefully) fix it.

Did the hesitation/strange running disappear too?

Re: Another 4.6 with top hose pressurising liner symptoms

I see you say you just changed the internals, can you buy just the internals as a kit or are you just clever with electronics? I ask as my father is a retired TV engineer so if it is just a straight forward electronics job for a few cheap electronic bits then I may twist his arm to get the solderin...

Re: Another 4.6 with top hose pressurising liner symptoms

Since I have had it if you try and drive it hard it goes well but as the revs go up it will die down and feel like it is holding back....bit strange and hard to describe, it also has a bit of a missfire, if you are gentle with the throttle it goes fine and does not have the same problem....helps wi...

I did that and posted some pics on here (somewhere), it came out ok but never used it myself as found myself an interim cover and used 100% serp. Do a search on modifying front cover and you may come across it, though dont forget how many hundreds of thousands of RV8's have used the old style oil p...

Well, I'm slow but finally got round to pressure testing the engine yesterday. No pics :-( Dipped it in a tank with 65°C water. Pressure at about 9Bar / 125Psi Leaks around my blanking plates and around one of the water jacket emptying plugs, which turned out to be only finger tight. No leaks whatso...

I've had a few beers, so my be talking out my ar-e, but have been thinking about the exact same thing for my engine build. Now, i I bolt on the flex plate and torque converter and bolt a long handle to the floor and the flex plate and I have a 4ton scale connected between the handle and the TC I may...

Sidecar: I'll do EFI with Megasquirt'n EDIS. So I'll be free to run whatever mixture I like. Eliot: Well, it's not built for speed. 38,5" tire diameter helps, but for what I do, speed is not lacking. It's water prrofness and the crisp acceleration response from my 3,9EFI RR i miss. See latest t...

To answer my own question about allowed warpness of the heads it's maximum 0,05mm according to the 2002 MY Disco2 workshop manual. Will need to resurface, then. This might be the reason for th eexchange, if I'm allowed to hope for a while. E.g. customer complains about blown head gasket. Workshop ch...

That's a really neat trick, Chris! That should be doable! 50 psi is about 3,5 bar. 8-9 Bar, as I have out from the air compressor should be better? Really need to get a lot of really hot water in the tank, though. Will have to think of a way to get it out of the wood chip burner... I did strip down ...

When I read my reply today I see it way be seen as a bit unecessarily harsh. It was not my intention and I apologise if it was thaken that way! Eliot: Yes, makes sense, I do not know if it has had a head gasket job done before changing the engine or not. Ged: THat's worrying since it seems to correl...

How would the dealr have diagnosed the slipped liner without any further dismantling that what you see in the pics?

I have talked to the engine macinists around here and none have the ability to hot pressure test blocks.

More pictures will follow.

Thanks for the info on the water pump. Seems I will reuse my timing cover from my 3.5, then. Will see if the motor engineers hereabouts have the equipment to hot pressure test a RV8. Otherwise I'm tmpted to build it up on the crate and test it before I swap in in to my RR. Will need to find a spare ...

RV4.6 scrap engine "rebuild"

I've landed myself a 4.6. It's a Range Rover engine, head cast date 45 00. Should be week 45 of 2000, right? Later engines should be less prone to "slipped liner", right? http://tobias.eller.nu/images/guling/nyfyrakommasex/SDC12048.JPG It is a replacement engine from an autorithed workshop...
