I was thinking of draining the Redline, flushing and trying your suggestion as even when the oil is warm the change is poor.

I would save the Redline and put it back in if needed.

The box has only done 500 miles since the rebuild and new oil.

I would go for the two relays Ian.

That would mean if one fan has a problem the other will still work.

Do you think your mate has a flow restriction problem that would hold the engine back?

I guess the best thing is to do the head changes and to test it with original filter setup then just try it with the filter cover off!

Kevin I have just looked into this. You are completely right!!! A MGC bonnet is £300+ :roll: I have removed the air filter and found that the air after entering through the 2" high filter has to squeeze through a 1/2" gap before turning down into the carb. This must be a real restriction. ...

When you say bog standard do you mean they are not SD1 heads?

30 BHP is exactly what I want. It would bring me up to 200 which is as far as I want to go. Would a change of cam (+ followers) give even more power with out losing smooth tickover and give oomph from low revs?
