As a LandRover nut, I have to say waste of a good vehicle.
As an Engineer, I have to say spectacular conversion. I've been following this since the originaL V16 concept - availability reduced it to a V8!

I can't give any guarantee regarding this as a long term solution, but it should certainly start your engine - I have started a Landrover 101 (3.5 V8.) using a 16Ah Genesis (very similar to the odyssey) before now, and this required about 15s cranking. Only thing I would say is run the vehicle long ...

Did you do anything to the distrbutor while doing the rest of the work? If not, this seems a bit strange. Occasionally you can get a faulty coil. simplest check is the DC resistance across the LT terminals - generally between 1.5 and 3 ohms depending on the coil. When you changed the plugs, did you ...

Chris - unfortunately, that isn't the one. As far as I can make out, the system I'm trying to sort out is unique to the 101 and certain recce vehicles of the same era. I have tried powering the ignition separately from the rest of the vehicle but it didn't help Conrod - This is NOT a basic 12V syste...

The spark is so weak as to be barely visible. The previous day when I checked before starting the vehicle the spark was exactly as you would expect from a correctly functioning system. Since this is 24V EMC shielded system, the plug leads cannot be connected to the coil as the screw on connectors ar...

It has a voltage regulator rather than a ballast resistor. I can't be sure that it is putting out the correct voltage (I can't find anything that tells me what it's output should be), but the output seemed sensible and was stable. I checked the spark at a few plugs - all were weak. Would have though...

24V Screened Ignition

I've been having a few problems with the 24V ignition on a 101 today - hopefully someone can suggest where the problem lies. Spent yesterday getting the engine running again after the vehicle had been laid up for a number of years, and by the end of the day it started and ran fine (though it did nee...

I learnt to drive in a 1.5 Allegro3 - a much better car than the metros that the driving instructors were using at the time. I would definitely say that the 1.5 twin carb engine was about as much as the allegro could really take - and since most of my friends were driving mk2 escorts and 850cc minis...

There are several thing to consider with this problem. I have unsuccessfully been chasing a similar problem in a 101 for some time now. First thing to check is the pressure cap. If this is rated too low or faulty, you will get severely elevated engine temperatures. The fact that you have hit 120 wit...

As the owner of a very original 101, those exhaust manifolds are definitely not from a 101 - the unpainted one is similar, but the outlet port doesn't extend far enough back. However, the dipstick and oil filler do look very familiar. The inlet ducting and elbows are from a 101, and were unique to t...

There's definitely no reason to be concerned by the in tank electrics on a Landrover sender - I've owned Landrovers with these for more years than I want to mention with no problems other than those caused by incompetant previous owners (incorrect wiring isn't always obvious until you run out of fue...

This all assumes that you are on carbs. If you are on an efi system, more wiring is involved (though not really more difficult)
