Odd engine number

I have just arrived on this forum and wonder if anybody can help me with a Rover V8 engine number as it doesnt follow the codes exactly only nearly!

The number is

35509437B

It would appear to be (and probably is) a Range Rover engine but the letter code is unusual. It is absolutely clear and is not over stamped. It also has a 8.5:1 Compression ratio which is also odd. At the moment I haven't taken the engine in bits as it is supposed to be "good to go" but I guess if I want to know what it is exactly then I will have no choice.

The lists that I have seen are not complete so it is quite possible that the series that includes your engine number hasn't been included.

Some pictures would at least confirm it's a Range Rover engine. But it might be something special, maybe from a 101?

I think Ive discovered its a 1974 era Range Rover engine. It has a front cover which is not open for a mechanical fuel pump... electric only which is no bother as that fits nicely in my Stag.
I will have to take the heads off next to see what has been done in there... if anything. I have a set of 10.5:1 Pistons from a P5 engine so as long as the bores are std and the valves have not been enlarged too much they will be going in.

Hopefully this little project is coming together! :) :)
