Rover 4.2 cross bolted?

Hi all,
Am I right in thinking a 4.2 Rover is cross bolted at the bottom end?
Looking at maybe taking one on with a split liner. Rebore and new liners?
Regards,
Rik.

I am pretty sure they aren't crossbolted
My Late '94 RR 3.9 V8 Classic it has a serpentine front end, pads for crossbolting, but no bolts
It did go porous

however and now has top hat liners

Aye, the 3.9 was not cross bolted but if memory serves, the 4.0s and bigger were. Just wanted to confirm before I buy yet another dead project engine much to the dismay of my better half!!

Yes, the 4.0 and 4.6 are crossbolted as fitted to P38 2nd generation Range Rovers and beyond.
4.2 was fitted to Classic LSE only, in 2 variants std front cover and serpentine (with a distributor) as per my 3.9

AHa!
Knew there was something like that! Thanks for that Royston, better put it on hold then! Akready got a 3.5 as a project so might just battle on with that.
Regards,
Rik

the intermediate 3.9 and 4.2s with the serp front end have the bits for cross bolting but need to be drilled.

And you will need the correct main caps to suit as they are not broad enough to meet the side of the crankcase

Most 'interim' blocks have the correct mains caps for a crossbolt conversion, EXCEPT those made between Jan and April 1994 which have the earlier type caps.
