3.9 Rover EFI 1989 (ish) ! help !

hi guys i am new to this i have regisered because i am in a right old pidle and i am totaly lost tbh with my rover v8 3.9 efi right were do i start :
i have put a 3.9 efi engine into my landrover 90 first problem was head gasket had gone so i have replaced this and got the heads skimed i have a brand new fuel pump (external) on i have brand new plugs, leds, roter housing roter arm dissy cap, and coil i have done the timing a hundrad times ( lol ) but i am still getting savear back fireing and bad idle now the idle is up and down but it changes after mabe 20 seconds or more not oggering but if you rev the engine it revs sweet but if you hold it to a certan point in the rev range u get the engine nearly cutting out the this almighty back fire flame out of exsorst and a light bank at air filter side there must be some 1 out there that can help ( PLEASE

hate to state the obvious but you do have the firing order right and dont have a couple of plugs crossed?

no i have chequed the a 100 time already :(

Have you had the ECU checked out to see if it has a fault?
If that is OK then it is a case of checking all the sensors, water inlet air, the lot, and check all the connections are good an none of the crimp on joints are not high resistance. what state are the plugs in, are they wet with petrol? it may be in limp home mode, so when you have checked the connections and sensors reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds.

Check after dark - is there any cross-firing between leads? or across the distributor cap?

right guys i have had a full day on the v8 today
i got it timed perfect ticking over perfect and running perfect i left it till operating temp then went up the road in it it pulled like a train no back fire no missing so i pulled it bk in unit left it ticking over a ferver 20mins to keep me eye in water and all temps then the engin just totaly cut out stopped so i did all the cheques and my fuel rail is no longer getting a live feed to it i have fuel presure from the pump but no injecters can any body help please
