SU Carburetta over flowing

Does anyone know what might cause the carburetta to overflow when I turn the ignition on? it didn't used to happen, is only recent problem. It is a Rover V8 engine, the SU carburettas have been reconditioned but it is still happening. FYI, the engine is fitted in a Triumph Stag, and it has already had a new electric fuel pump fitted, but this didn't cause problem because it was happening before this. Any help gratefully recieved.

Hi and welcome,
have you a return pipe back to the tank?
what psi is the pump running at?
is the float height set correct?

Hi Tony,
Thanks for reply.
No return pipe, but will try to fit one somehow!
No idea on PSI, do you know how I can find out?
Will check, just need to find out how high they should be.
Dave
PS Lovely capri, have had a couple myself

Hi
Stuck float valve in the carb bowl, probably very worn by now.

Likely the float valve dirty or worn. Easy and cheap to change. Check also the float isn't leaking - ie has petrol in it.

When a float develops a leak and starts taking fuel, it will start to sink and this will allow the fuel level within the bowl to reach such a level that it will overflow via the spill pipe.
