LT77 Speedo Drive

Hi
I have an LT77 gearbox which has an orange 20 tooth electronic speedo transducer.
I want to fit a mechanical speedo but the drive I have is the black 23 tooth variety.
Can I simply fit this and calibtrate the new speedo to suit or will the drive gear in the gearbox chew it up?
