Hi,
I have purchased a number of parts to install a rover V8 into my TR7, one of the parts is a 35 DLM8 distributor from a range rover with the amplifier mounted on the side, it is the later type with 3 small pins, looking a the posts I have gathered that only 2 pins are used and one goes to each side of the coil (I will be using a 12V lucas sport coil) , can anyone tell me which two I use and where they go?

As far as I can remember, the middle one is unused. Can't remember which way round the other two were connected though, and not in a position to find out without a bit of digging through boxes.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Pete.

If you look at the module face on, with the connections on the left hand side , the pin numbers are 1-- 2-- 3

1 (left) goes to the coil (-)
2 (centre) is spare
3 (right) goes to the coil (+)

We can sell you a ready made lead , if you need one. (Drop me a PM)
Regards
Jim

Just to be a pedant:-

Pin 2 is actually an earth connection. The 'offical' LR 3 pin lead runs a two core shielded cable and the shield is earthed through this pin.

Have to disagree with you on this one Russ.

Pin 2 is spare.
On the later modules, the sheathing is eathed to the module mounting plate.
The shielding is only used as a "Farrady cage" for protection against stray impulses. It plays no part in the circuit operation.

You won't distroy the dizzy but you "might" blow the module. Jim can sell you a secondhand one for a few quid. For about 40 quid you can buy a new one.

Pete.

I have read this thread and understand the wiring but i have the connector for dizzy and the wire are red white and blue
If i wire the way this says the red wire would be -ve on the coil and blue would be posative is this correct the dizzy and wiring are from a 1992 range rover

The correct coil for the DLM8 distributor is the Lucas DLB198 or equivalent Bosch blue coil, the sports coil has the wrong resitance and won't work with this dizzy.

I've got a spare new 12v sports coil if anybody want's one
