serpentine oil pressure relief valve help

Post by SuperV8 »

I'm rebuilding my serpentine timing cover. Got to the point to re-install the oil pressure relief valve and realised I'd forgotten the order it came appart in...

Looked through my 4.6 overhall manual, got to the oil pump relief valve remove/ re-fit part BUT I also have a small metal tube with shamfered ends which looks to fit inside the piston with holes (see pic below). I can't see what this tube would do and if fitted like I mentioned above it just slides through to contact the edge of the serp pump! can't be right can it??

An help much appriciated.

This is the order in which I reassembled my front cover parts:

No idea what the little tube is for though.

Chris, did you have any trouble re-fitting the relief valve plug and o-ring?

I tried fitting it last night with new o-ring and lots of oil but couldn't push it in enough to get the cir-clip in?? The relief valve plugs fit fine without the o-ring.

The old o-rings do look very flat! not very "O" like.

The new o-rings do seam rather stiff, maybe they've been on the shelf a while? they're supposed to be new!!

Maybe I need some more wheatabix

Firstly, I did have a problem sourcing o-rings as the Land Rover parts catalogue doesn't give a part no., yet the manual says to change them!

So I went to an o-ring specialist and got them matched up.

But, to answer the question!, I didn't have any real trouble getting them in. I did lubricate it well, and had to tap them in, but they did go in OK.
