o.k does anyone know what manual box you could fit on the back of a 350 sb chevy motor without going down the route of buying a expensive american box? like maybe a modern jap box that could be made to fit??

I'm unsure why an american box should be expensive? but a T5 with the right bell housing. or as Mr Mole says the toyota box, though by you have bought and imported an adaptor kit you would probably be spending less on a UK sourced T56 or a US T5 with the right bell housing.

As usual I bow to Mike's encyclopedic knowledge but I would think a T5 is a bit weedy behind a warmed-up 350 and the T56 is HUUUUUGE :D :D :D

Hi Kevin
As far sa I am aware there are many versions of the T5 (even the ones fitted to sierras) they are fitted (to my knowladge, which is by no means encyclopedic or always even right) as a manual option behind some chevys, I admit again to my knowladge that they are mainly fitted to 305s and 327s so it would imply that they may have a limited torque capacity. Though I also believe tey are the preffered box for the outlaw mustang 5.0l drag cars with a gear splitter overdive, so in one form they cant be too shabby  .Again your point about the T56 is more than valid, but who wants a fornt seat pasanger any way? There is of cause the TKO 600 which I believe can handle a very well warmed over Chevy... now who might have that combination 8) .
Best regards
Mike

5 speed Toyota box is good, but starting to get hard to find, any 6 speed generally is quite big that can handle the power, the 6 speed from a BMW is meant to be quite good, and I beleive its the same box that is fitted to the 350z and later V6 supras. heres a company that makes bellhousings to fit almost anything.

V6 Supra?! Do gear ratio's etc work well with V8's on Jap boxes like the supra ones?
