Carb to fuel injection. What do I need to do?

Post by nickm »

Having explored the options to get my 4.6 through the sva/iva emissions I have decided to bite the bullet and convert to fuel injection.Could anyone tell me how to go about it?The engine is a 4.6 with stage 3 heads/270 cam/10.5/1 cr and sd1 front cover/P6 pulleys.I have an old 3.9 hotwire system and wondered if I could use this with an appropriate ecu? Thanks,Nick.

The 3.9 stuff will work ok for you with like you say the right ECU. You could go with the 4.6 stuff but they are so wired into the rest of the car it makes it difficult to get running outside its original vehicle. Option wise on ECU you could go for a chip conversion or you could go the VEMS or MS route. Don't think there is much difference cost wise but VEMS or MS route you will have to set the maps yourself or pay to get it done. Course this is an advantage if/when you modify the engine again. What route you go depends on what parts you need but basically its the whole hotwire system, fuel pump, inlet wiring and sensors. You will also need the air flow meter if you go the chip route but you wont need it if you go VEMS or MS.
Not sure what power output your looking at with that setup but you might also need larger injectors as the standard ones start to get marginal around 250 bhp.
Look on the bright side, it's only money and not like were in the middle of a credit crunch or anything
