just wanted to say hi!
hi everyone
just purchased my first 3.5 v8!
Its a 1974, Rover P6 3500S V8
just wanted to come in and say hi, i should probably be on here quite a bit as its currently not a runner and sounds like its gonna need a full strip down!
i will probably build her back to factory standard though this will obviously depend on the state of her!
anyways, Hi everyone!

its a whole p6
its pretty clean internally, but externally the whole n/s needs work, from accident damage not rust though!
the last owner clipped a low brick wall that went the whole length of her, she needs a new front and rear wing and a rear door, the front door i can probably save with a bit of a beating! i need to remove the sills and all the trim yet so i can really acertain the extent of any rust but she appears very clean at present!
i brought her from my other halfs boss for a pound! (it was a drunken decision on his part but he has cars coming out of his ears and his misuss said that i could have it and he should let me, so that was that!)
bit of a bargain really, but she is gonna be on a very tight budget and probably be very slow, were moving house and she is currently being stored by the current owner in the factory they own, and he is even trailoring it to our new house when we move in, in june! top bloke! lol

you'll find the hood release in the passenger glove box
Welcome to the joys of P6 ownership.
You'll find the hood release in the passenger glove box. You'll probably also find a load of rust if you look at the car a little closer, lurking beneath the painted outer bodywork.
All the green panels can be unbolted to reveal the 'base unit', until you've had a good look you won't know what you've got! Cars with the sunroof options can rot in the roof pillars if the drain pipes fill with leaves over time, and the drip rail holding the stainless trim around the edge of the roof can rot away too.
Lift the rear seat squabs and felt matting and look for rust behind the crossmember at the 'pockets' at the outer edges. Look for rust on the inner boot walls where two panhard bars bolt through, also behind the cardboard panel concealing the petrol tank at the tops of the inner wheel arches. The boot 'corners' often rot out too. And of course the sills and jacking points, hidden behind painted sill panels. If the top edge of the rear wings beneath the vinyl-covered rear 'D' pillars are rusty there'll be much worse underneath. The 'D' post holding the front edge of the rear wings can disintegrate with time.
Check out my extensive online restoration photo diary to see all the typical rot spots, and how to fix them properly!

Any questions you may have I'll be glad to answer. There's an online forum on the Rover P6 Owners Club website, a goldmine of info from very knowledgeable enthusiasts.
Don't let those SD1 enthusiasts fool you, with their rear drum brakes; the P6 was the last real Rover! Good luck and happy Rovering!
