exhaust position

hi is it best to have the exhaust out the back of the car or just in front of the rear wheels, as space is tight i would like them by the rear wheels any thoughts guys

Don't think it will make any odds performance wise but could matter a lot for ground clearance.

The other issue is fume ingress into the cabin.

If you go with side exit like I have in the MGB, just make sure you have an inch or so of pipe clearing the sill. When I had mine flush I did get a few smells.
I couldnt get twins out the back as the petrol tank is in the way. And the new system is 2.5 inch. Ground clearance for me would not be an issue if I hadnt lowered the car by 2 inches. I use the Hedmann budget Turbo mufflers from Real Steel. Low profile flat oval that tucks under quite nice and only about 24 quid each.
I only use this one box each side and it sounds spot on.

mk1 zodiac with a rover v8 wisbech front end,8"rear and not much room for exhaust over axle,
