MSD questions

Post by disco-v8 »

ok i know what the MSD does but am i right in thinking that after installing the MSD 6A, i can through the oridginal stock ingnition amp away????? or will i still need this?????

oh by the way my eninge is a rover 3.9 EFI and my ignition amp is not attached to the dizzy, but is up behind my front headlight

also i read loads saying i need a tach adaptor...... well first off where do you get them from, plus what info does it give to the ecu???? this may make me sounds stupid but i thought it my just be the rev counter!!!!!! or does it tell it more than that????

basicaly i think either my ignition amp or coil is packing up so was going to up grade to a MSD 6A and go out and get one tomorrow, but if ive got to sort out the tach adaptor then ill leave it another day

you defo need a tach adapter for the hotwire injection and MSD. The hotwire expects an analogue signal off the coil which you cant use anymore where the MSD puts out a digital square signal. There are two different ones but to be honest I cant remember which one it is you need but Real steel should be able to help you. As for amp or not you will have to let us know which model it is as up behind the headlamp doesn't mean too much to me although it might to some. If its opus I dont think it will work but the other two you might be in with a chance but I would do more research.
