facet fuel pump position/orientation

Mounting my facet silver top fuel pump is there any specific requirement as to the orientation of the pump. The ideal place to mount it would mean that the inlet/outlets are pointing down which would suggest that air would not be able to be purged from the system.

I do have the option of being able to remove the pump to ensure the lines are free from air and then mount back?

I mounted a red top when I ran carbs, below the level of the tank with the pump mounted slightly off horizontal eg; about 2 oclock. The inlet higher than the outlet, if that makes sense!?
Cant you turn the inlet and outlet fittingson the pump so they dont point down?
