katanaman wrote:I agree there will be losses but 4-5 HP? That would mean your your using 2.5-3.5 to get 1.5 worth of power. I really doubt that, even a screw supercharger isn't that inefficient and they are fairly poor.

Anyway we better get back on topic before Tony breaks out the big sticks
It max effort, my supercharger takes around 100-150hp to drive apparently.

And there are many reasons manufacturers moved to wider multi-rib belts...because of the drive loads required by accessories.

They will sap more power than you think. Steady state might not take as much, but then you also have to accelerate these things too, accommodate for low and high electrical loads etc.

when did you map it - or at least tell me you are keeping an eye on those fuel ratios....

have been doing idle runs with datalogs, and sending to Phil, he has been adjusting the map then sending back, then we go for a little run, he does the same again etc etc until we can open her up more and more and he does the same after each datalog,
I have not fired it up and gone blatting up the road, lol

A quick update,
we have finally exhausted how far we can tune the car with tuner studio between Phil and myself,

SO Phil has now called in the pro's, Shaun from V8 developments that tunes the megasquirt on their rolling road,

Shaun will be visiting me on the 10th Dec to go over the ecu and settings and fine tune it and iron out a few bugs we have before we hit the rollers,
we are running 12psi of boost now he has confirmed from the latest datalog,
its running retarded, hence why no det with the high boost, and wants to change the fueling etc to what he (Shaun) called a split map set up allowing finer tuning of the fuelling and ignition under cruise and boost,
watch this space, oh reason my ignition is way out is due to my computerised snap on timing light, they don't like wasted spark, doh!!!

sounds like we may have some more horses to come out yet :D

A strobe on wasted spark will give you a shed load of error wont it??

9 degree's flat out is 10 degree's less than I used to run when making mid 10's on the strip

Does your electronic timing stuff allow you to map more advance as the rpm's increase? ie, more retard at low rpm for max power and then add timing at high rpm to keep peak cylinder pressure at the right place in the cycle??

yeah Pel I can map the timing across the rev range,
the problem is you have to set base timing, and its a school boy error, wasted spark pulses twice so I set it at 10 deg but due to 2 spark cycle it is really only 0TDC, so where im meant to see 18deg at WOT im only seeing 9,

When Shaun from V8 Developments pops down in a couple of weeks we are going through the whole thing, as we will now need to tweak the WOT timing due to the amount of boost etc,
I could change the ecu settings to give the correct timing now, but will let Shaun do it as he wants to run dual tables for more finer mapping,

The car is effing quick now, god knows what it will be like once the settings are corrected and the right timing is being run,

also this is why the 4.6 only ran a 13.1 as it was retarded to foooook :?

Base timing should always be checked at 2 or 3 different rpms/timing levels This would have immediately highlighted your error.

Or baseline timing at 0deg and use a fixed strobe, not a dialback light.

learn by your mistakes as they say, need to be careful now though as im going to be running a lot of boost with the wrong settings as such, recon I may have to pull more out at the higher end now as its set to run 18
